In general, the beaches south of Ilheus are wide with clear, fine sand. Some parts further south are rocky and have
wilder water with big waves, like Backdoor, a popular spot for surfers. The big difference between the south and the
north beaches is that the beaches up north are less developed speaking in terms of tourism. There are only a few little
cabanas spread out over the entire coast line.
